Caddo Parish Magnet High School Reviews

Three of my children attend Magnet. It is an awesome school.

My second child will graduate with honors this year from Magnet. They are prepared for college--- wherever they choose. Magnet opens doors for their future - more college options, more scholarship opportunities. No other school in the area comes close. How could you not want your child to be in one of the top rated high schools in the state but also recognized as one of the top in the nation by US News/World Report??

I'm currently a Freshman at Magnet. It's only been 3 weeks since my first day, but I already have a new family. At Magnet the students and faculty come together to make one big family. Here in LA most high schools are focussed around football, not Magnet. We are a high that focusses on grades, performing arts, and sports. There are many things to choose from aside from the college-like courses. If you move within the area and you have a high school student, the best for you to do is enroll them in Magnet. You will not regret it!

I have watched four of my kids turn into very intelligent, and thoughtful young men and women as they have progressed through the years at CMH. I was raised in private schools and we never had half the opportunities that these kids have been offered at this 'public' school.

Hello, I am a recent graduate of Caddo Magnet High School. Any one that has attended Magnet (as we commonly refer to it) can attest to the fact that it is a true treasure. Throughout my four years, I encountered numerous teachers who pushed me to be 'the best I could be.' I spent my last few minutes, looking over the past reviews, and I simply do not think they do the school justice. While Magnet is not a math and science school, it is nevertheless the leader of the pack in nearly every science competition in Louisiana. C.E. Byrd (the math/science school) does not participate in science fairs or any other competition where they will encounter Magnet students. Quite odd you might say. Many other examples are available if the interest is present. I am being told I am out of 'characters.' Post back with further questions.

About to finish up my 4th year. Best school ever. Hands down.

As a former graduate of Magnet High, I have always felt such pride in having attended one of the top academic oriented high schools in the entire country -- it's program and curriculum is second to none, and anyone looking into attending Magnet would be very impressed in all it has to offer. It's scores for standardized testing is waaay above the district and state scores, rating in the top 95-100%, and that is just the tip of the iceberg. I would encourage any parent or student thinking about attending Magnet High to further look into all it has to offer.

CMHS is the best kept secret in Shreveport. This school is for parents and children who are serious about their child's education first, sports second. Since moving to LA I found that football takes over the high schools and dilutes the academic quality. Football players and cheerleaders set the standards at many of these schools and create heavy peer pressure. There is no football at CMHS. CMHS remains in the top 3% of high schools in the entire nation and is the TOP high school in all of LA. (Check the stats). My 9th grade son loves it there and the kids are very accepting of each other. It's not in the greatest neighborhood but there are no problems. Since kids must be accepted based on grades and behavior records the student quality is excellent! Great kids, great teachers, great school!

My two children, one quite the student, and the other not a good student, received a first-rate education. at CMHS. Both attended fine colleges out of state, graduating with honors. Never was discipline a problem at CMHS, and the principal always put her students first. In 8 years of classes we had only 1 mediocre teacher. The rest were first-rate; many college professor quality.

i am currently a junior at magnet and i can definitely say the classes are demanding but much of it is worthwhile.were tested with life situations we may face in the future and be well prepared for college. every aspect of the school is well rounded and despite the common stereotypes most of them are not true at all and are complete opposite. i recommend any parent or prospective student to check out and experience the magnet standard.the ROTC program is also one of the best things I''ve been involved in. it adds on to the life lessons we learn as if we stepped into the real world and enhances our abilities upon graduation.

The principle of Caddo Magnet High School does not serve in the best interest of children. She has no feelings nor does she care about the wellfare of the students that attend that school. Parents beware if your child should ever need any special attention while attending Caddo Magnet High School!

All three of my children attended and graduated from CMHS. The instruction is outstanding and the leadership by the principal is untouchable. CMHS excells in academic quality. Extracurricular activities are great are very good. JROTC is very good. There could not be a better school in the state than CMHS. GEAUX CMHS.

When I went to CMHS, I didn't expect the overwhelming of support I received. Caddo Magnet doesn't just have a phenomenal academic program, the uniqueness of the school is special in itself. The JROTC program is the best Caddo Parish can give! I learned leadership skills that I will use throughout my life. I started college right after I graduated, and now realize how much of the difficult classes (at magnet) really paid off. I am so glad that I went to a school that not only prepared me for college, but also for LIFE.

Great School! But there is absolutely no discipline at all.

Yes, Magnet is challenging, but when I went to college, I had no problem with my courses. Thanks to Magnet, my family now has a dentist, a physical therapist and an engineer. The great reputation of Magnet known nationwide. There are still plenty of sports to be involved in, and the arts program is unrivaled. While in the orchestra, we performed in Carnegie Hall, Italy, and San Diego, and always won the state orchestra competitions with Superior. If you want to prepare your child, this is the place!

I am the 9th grade counselor, and I would love to answer any questions you may have about the Magnet Experience. Please email me at sfortenberry (at) caddo.k12.la.us anytime. Magnet is the number one high school in the state, and US News and World Report recently ranked Magnet as one of the best high schools in the nation. I graduated from another area high school that is ranked almost as highly, and I can guarantee you that the difference in education quality is enormous. Please contact me if you would like more information. Thanks!

Caddo Parish Magnet High School is a school well worth considering. I have had two daughters graduate and I have a son whom is currently a senior at Magnet. My girls started college as second semester freshmen because of the great education available at Magnet. There are advanced placement and dual enrollment classes available to all students. The school has 21 National Merit kids this year! This helps to makes Magnet the best school in the north Louisiana, Shreveport and Bossier City area! Magnet only requires you live in Caddo Parish, have a 2.5 GPA, with a 50 percentile on the latest national reading test. When considering moving to the Shreveport/Bossier City area, consider living in Caddo Parish and sending your child to a school of academic excellence! We would like to welcome Cyber Command families to take a look at our wonderful school.

i am currently a sophomore a caddo magnet. i absolutely love it here. the students accept you and you never feel like an outcast. the education is great. i feel challenged. we have the best performing arts ive ever seen at a school. the teachers prepare you for college and you really do feel like your in a college environment. this school is for students who are more mature and want to learn. if you dont keep on top of your work, you will easily slip behind and be eventually kicked out. i would recommend this school for a student who enjoys the arts and has an open-mind. as a student, no one really likes someone who acts stupid and is stuck up. we're all laid back students but we concentrate in class and are still able to learn. the teachers give a fun environment where its easy to learn.

I am a current student at Caddo Magnet High getting ready to go into my sophmore year. This school is not for students who are not willing and ready to be pushed to thier maximum potential. This school thrives on thier reputaion and they fight very hard to keep it and make it an even better one. I just moved to Louisiana and when my parents and I were in search fo ra high school for me to go to every one recamended Caddo Magnet High(assuming I was smart enough to be there). At Magnet you have no choice but to good or you are forced to leave, this way you know your child is not in an inviroment with students who are not achieveing the Caddo Magnet High -DaShawna Adams

I am a former student of CMHS, and it is by far one of the greatest public High schools in Louisiana. I would recommend it to any parent or student who wants a head start on a college education.

A liberal arts magnet school not a math science magnet school. Magnet High offers each and every student the opportunity to excel to his or her highest potential. It should be called a college preparatory school. Our students are prepared in all aspects of education. Music and Arts are a big part of our school but our students excel in Math and Science. As a parent of two children an engineer going to law school and another with a degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and will attend medical school. I can say Magnet High does what it takes to be successful in any field. It should truly be called College Preparatory.

Wonderful, wonderful opportunity for kids who are really serious about learning. In a state known for its poor quality of public education, Caddo Magnet High School is a treasure. A child who applies himself at this school will have no problem studying in college - the best college prep school in this part of the state.

Our daughter graduated from this school in 2002 and our son will graduate in 2005. This school challenges students to reach their full potential and prepares them for college in a most unique fashion of indepth academics. The administration and staff are always willing to meet any student need. We have been impressed by the opportunities offered to our children. Caddo Magnet is an experience every high school student should be able to experience.

My sister graduated from Caddo Magnet High in 1999. This school will challenge your child and prepare them for college. My sister went from Caddo Magnet High to Centenary College in Shreveport where she went on academic scholarships. She graduated from Centenary College at the top of her class and is now a law student in Wisconsin.

This is the best school I have attended so far. Teachers definitely know what they're talking about and, of the majority, students want to learn. There is a loose dress code, but that only inspires us to be more creative and work harder. We are challenged to do more than our best at this school and if you struggle the teachers will pay attention, no one can fall behind.

I am a student at C.E. Byrd and I feel Magnet is a good school, but for math and science Byrd is a much better school. I like math and science. Magnet is a better school for someone interested in the performing arts. Byrd has both a magnet program and a neighborhood program; this makes Byrd look like a school which is under-performing. If you compare Byrd's magnet students to Magnet's students we are equally as bright and in a lot of cases brighter. Do not rule out Byrd just because the overall test scores make Magnet look better. Magnet is still a school worth considering.

This school is fantastic! Who would have thought such a jewel existed in Louisiana? My daughter attends (junior) and is constantly challenged and stimulated at Magnet! She is in the Academic Gifted Program and takes AP classes for college credit. The teachers are devoted to accommodating individual student needs and the school has a great webpage too! This school has one of the best learning atmospheres I've ever seen. Although the dresscode can sometimes need enforcing (colored hair, multiple body piercings, bare middrift) I felt my child had little distractions and became more dedicated to their schoolwork as they went to Caddo Magnet. This school is the best school in the state and one of the best in the country on many levels, especially when it comes to preparing children for college.

This school is, on its own, a reason for reason for living in this parish. It is by far the best school in the area. The atmosphere is that of a college campus and the expectations are high. There are no discipline problems and safety is not an issue.

As a graduate of 2001, I would like to express my utmost appreciation to the faculty. Their dedication and ability to challenge their students by upholding 'Academic' standards made my experience there unique. Not only did I feel well prepared for college but am confident that my future career in politics will flourish; this would not have been possible without my educational experience through this fine institution!

I'm a graduate (class of '96), not a parent. Caddo Magnet reinforces independent thinking and studying. While requiring college like assignments, the teachers were much more involved in day to day activities and learning. In this college-like, 'free spirited' atmosphere, students are given room to grow and learn at their own pace (within a structured environment, of course), while faculty keeps a diligent look-out for their best interest. The absolute, no-holes-barred, best high school of the two I attended.
